It is a blessing for us that Hurricane Gustav's path from south Louisiana inland to the northwest has allowed us to dodge his bullets of destruction. Here in central Mississippi we have received only light winds and light rains, and we are glad this hurricane is to the south and headed to the west of us. We pray that our friends, relatives, and neighbors in Louisiana will be safe and sound. What really ticked me off was while preparing for the worst scenario of this hurricane's arrival I discovered that our portable generator has been stolen from the storage shed! This is the first time ever to have anything STOLEN from this house and yard in all the years of living here. I despise theft and I do hope the jerk who stole our generator gets electrocuted if he tries to use it.(Just joking!) Thank goodness we did not lose our electricity thus not actually having a need to use the generator.
Glad to hear all is well there and that your plants got some rain.
Katrina destroyed my step-daughter's and son-in-law's home in Gulfport, Miss. They moved away rather than rebuilding. We're in east central FL so we're watching Hanna now.
Glad Gustav was gentle to everyone in Vicksburg. We received about the same here north of Jackson except we actually felt like the hurricane had finally hit up here with some stronger wind and heavier rains about an hour ago. That seems to have calmed down now.
We're always glad to get rain for our plants. Enjoyed looking at some of your pictures.
I, too, was relieved that Gustav wasn't as fierce as they originally forecast. I've been listening to my cathedral wind chimes outside my office window as I write this, and I'm thankful that Vicksburg seems to have been spared from most of the high winds.
I'm sorry about your generator -- I, too, despise theft and can understand your frustration.
Hello Jon, I just came here, via Janie's blog. You have a beautiful blog. I love the photos. I'm going to add you to my list. I'll be returning.
Good to hear Gustav was not as bad as he might have been!!
I have two blogs. One devoted to home is Back Porch Musings. The other is devoted to my growing photography hobby, Snapshots from the Back Porch. You can see it by clicking my camera, on the sidebar of Back Porch Musings. Hope you have time to stop by, sometime.
I'm sorry about your generator. I can identify with your anger. After Hurricane Katrina, we were still building our new home, and tring to live in it at the same time.... and had a few things sitting around outside.
We heard a noise about midnight and when Billy went outside to look, he found all of his tools had been stolen out of his truck. He needed these for his work. They took our riding lawnmower, a compressor (that was borrowed) and My big beautiful cat was never seen again. I don't know how people can steal from those already under so much stress but they did. We had a lot of thieves who came down here after the Hurricane and went around in groups to steal.
Glad you had little damage from Gustav. Here, in this part of Louisiana, it wasn't too bad. It is terrible about your generator. I don't know what we would have done without ours. I guess you will have to replace it since one hurricane knocking out the electricity can be a nightmare.
The pottery stand I like to go to is on the corner of Spillway and Old Fanin Road. It doesn't really have a name. There are also a lot of stands up in Canton. I am surprised you don't have any in Vicksburg!
I'm glad to hear that the hurricane didn't do any damages to your garden. Thieves seem to be around everywhere...that's a typical sign of our society...unfortunately!
Thank you very much for sharing. Through your blog, a lot of people including me of course have a chance to read and learn from. I have read some of your post and I really enjoyed reading it. Thanks again and looking forward for more of your posting soon!

A Quote from Henry Mitchell's, The Essential Earthman
"Gardening is a long road, with many detours and way stations, and here we all are at one point or another. It's not a question of superior or inferior taste, merely a question of which detour we are on at the moment. Getting there (as they say) is not important; the wandering about in the wilderness or in the olive groves or in the bayous is the whole point."

Lets hope that the lack of devastation, this time around, doesn't lead to complacency in the future.

Just heard the news about it this morning. Glad it didn't cause any major devastation.
Boo to the thief!
