Jewels Of Opar Limon Talinum a/k/a Talinum Paniculatum

This plant is getting raves of attention and positive reviews among Mississippi gardeners so I am trying it for the first time in my lime green, chartreuse corner this year. The color of its leaves is very unusual as are its jewel-like flower buds and seed pods. Unfortunately I could not capture its unique leaf color with my camera in this shot.

This is a lovely plant - I agree, too, that it is hard to believe it is in the Portulaca family.

I have never known the name of this plant, but it looks like the plants I have had for years! Tiny thin stems with tiny pink flowers then the red seed pods. I get amused thinking how I ask a lady years ago about hers, and she gave me a little plant. They are SO very hardy, I can's get rid of them! Quite invasive! Tuff little boogers!

Hi-Doesn't look like this blog has been updated recently, but if you see this comment would you be so kind as to send me a few tips on this plant-or the url of where you got your info, please? I bought one this year because I loved the foliage and the tiny little flowers/seedpods. Now it is September, which up here in Portland marks the end of the summer growing season, and it's stopped blooming but is growing like crazy. I live in an apartment so it is in a large pot.
I need to know how to over-winter it,( though I guess you don't get too cold down there in Mississippi, huh?) and also if I should cut back the long stems to encourage flowering or if this is it until next summer....Or is it an annual? That's a bit of information I haven't been able to get. One site listed it as a succulent, though it gave no other info on it...another called it a cactus and now you say it is in the portulaca family....I'm confused

I'd appreciate any help on this one

Thanks much
Kathleen
