The Byrds Singing "Turn, Turn, Turn"...and Scott McKenzie Singing "San Francisco" ..My Flashback To Forty-three Years Ago in S.F. in 1965

The Words of Wisdom on my old bookmarker above are from the Bible, Ecclesiastes 3.1, and I got it from the famous landmark City Lights Bookstore during the summer of 1965which I spent in San Francisco. I had many new and life-changing experiences mingling with the "Beat Generation" and young hippies with flowers in their hair, who were just beginning to migrate to S.F....truly a summer I will never forget. A Teaching of Buddha That I Learned When I Lived In Thailand

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." Buddha

Eva Cassidy Singing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" Video

This is one of my favorite songs sung by one of my favorite singers, Eva Cassidy, who tragically died of melanoma in 1996 at age 33 before she became famous world-wide. This February 2 Eva would have had her 45th birthday. At the bottom of this page I have posted some more videos of Eva Cassidy singing.

Thinking About This Video While Cleaning My Lotus Ponds Today...THINK SPRING!

Butterweed Is Beautiful But Bitterly Bad To Bovines

Butterweed is a wildflower seen all over the South in early spring. It is a member of the Aster family and is now botanically known as Packera Glabella, but many call it Senecio Glabellus, or Senecio Lobatus, Common names for it are yellow ragwort, yellow rocket, golden ragwort, and many farmers curse it as it can be poisonous to grazing animals such as cattle and horses. In Mississippi some low fields are so full of it that it looks like a sea of gold, and I think it is beautiful. It is one of the very first wildflowers to bloom here.

"Song Of India" Dracaena Reflexa

Many years ago when I was in Agra, India touring the Taj Mahal, I was very impressed not only with the perfection of that famous building, but also the beautiful gardens around it. There was a hedge about 3' tall of "Song of India" plants that were just as dazzling as the white marble of the Taj Mahal.

Fiddle-leaved Fig....Fiddledy-dee Foliage

The shape of these leaves always interests me. In the spring I will be repotting this in a large terra cotta shoe-shaped pot from Mexico. The tongue in this shoe pot kind of looks like these leaves, and I think it will be an interesting combination. This whimsical pot is a conversation piece by itself.

Robert Frost and Bret Harte and Edith Piaf Quotations And Cartoons and Thoughts About Regrets or No Regrets In Life Decisions?

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I... I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." 'If of all words of tongue and pen, The saddest are, "It might have been," More sad are those we daily see, "It is, but it hadn't ought to be." Edith Piaf: "Non,je ne regrette rien."

Amazon Lily Bed In A Florida Garden...Amazing

My cousin Hunter has a connection to the Amazon Rain Forest right in his Florida garden. Lots of people here struggle to grow these as houseplants, but Hunter is blessed to have a lush bed of these lilies and says they have a wonderful delicate scent.

"Orange Brush" Ginger In A Florida Eden

My cousin, Hunter, who has two green hands as opposed to two green thumbs, shared this nice photo of an orange ginger blooming in his Florida garden. There are so mnay different kinds of gingers in my reference books, but I think this one might be identified as hedychium coccinium var. 'Aurantica' known as the "Orange Brush Ginger". It is in a very happy place snuggling with an anthurium.

This Blog Is Dedicated To The Memory Of My Beloved Sister, Lynn

I created this blog in 2006 especially for my dear older sister, Lynn, who lived in Montana, in order for her to see pictures of what I was growing and doing in the garden here in Mississippi. Lynn became seriously ill in recent years and was unable to visit Mississippi very often, so this blog was my way of keeping her updated. Sadly Lynn passed away on 9-27-07 at age 66, but in my heart I know she is in a better place and free from her years of pain and suffering. Tomorrow, 2-12-08, is her birthday, and I am posting one of her last photos as a tribute to her memory.

N.Y. GIANTS WIN THE SUPER BOWL 17 TO 14!!!!!

What a thriller!!!! I was so very proud to see our favorite football Quarterback, Eli Manning, lead the N.Y. Giants to to a great victory over the undefeated New England Patriots this evening. Of course, he won the Most Valuable Player award and the Giants were awarded the coveted Lombardi trophy. Last year Eli's older brother, Peyton Manning, Quarterback of the Colts, won the Super Bowl, and that team took home these honors and bragging rights. Eli and Peyton are the sons of Archie Manning, our famous Ole Miss Quarterback, who later played for the New Orleans Saints. Eli was the Quarterback at Ole Miss during his college days as was his father. Good football genes are in the Manning family in triplicate without question.

Mississippi's Football Royal Dynasty...Super Bowl XLII

On Sunday, February 3, 2008, the N.Y. Giants led by Quarterback Eli Manning, will play the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Last year Eli's brother, Peyton Manning, Quarterback of the Colts, won the Super Bowl. Their father, Archie Manning, was the famous Quarterback at Ole Miss, my alma mater, as was Eli his son. Here in Mississippi, we consider the Mannings to be our Football Royal Dynasty. Please help me root for Eli and the Giants on Sunday evening!

Planting Trees To Offset Political Pollution and Hot Air

Today time slipped away and I almost forgot to pick up my trees at the Soil and Water Conservation District Office. I arrived about closing time and the guy handed me my little bag of assorted trees and offered me some "extras" that were unclaimed to share with my neighbors. So now I have 9 bags containing 115 trees: 90 of Bald Cypress, Cherry Bark Oak, Crape Myrtle, Live Oak, Magnolia, Red Maple, and 25improved Loblolly Pines. I am so weary and cynical of all the "Hot Air" and "Political Pollution" spewing from the Presidential candidates that I am glad to plant these baby trees to do my part to help fight Global Warming aggravated by their verbosity....and we still have 10 more months left in this campaign to listen to them...Lord Help Us PLEASE! Click the play button below and turn your speakers to the max to hear something very nice and positive.
